Notes to accompany "Discipleship, Week 1"
Genesis 1:26
"I believe in the immortality of the sold because I have within me
immortal longing." - Helen Keller
We have all been created with a
need for God.
Philip and Nathaniel.
John 1:43-47
Does Jesus really have the answer to that deep inner huger of the
heart?
Signposts which mark the path of spiritual growth.
Life and Joy
John 10:10
"The word 'joy' is too great to be confused with 'happiness'. - Kirby Page.
We often confuse joy with happiness. Our world is addicted to
seeking happiness, but there's very little joy.
We've been created with the hope of eternity and a relationship
with the God who made us and who has revealed Himself to us in Jesus.
The Call
Galatians 6:14-17
"Pain is no evil unless it concerns us". - Charles
Kingsley
There is no real call of God without cost.
The call of Christ is discipleship.
The marks of discipleship are the practices of our faith that will
ground us in our call, our hope, our joy.
Called to real life.
Mark 1:16-18
Jesus is much more interested in who we are than what we do
Jesus calls us to life not to a new job.
Discipleship is simply "followership".
What or whom we follow, we serve.
To follow Jesus is to discover you are the point where heaven
touches earth.
Our call to discipleship is to answer the call of Jesus and to
follow Him.
For this we need to learn to stay close to Him and then to touch
other lives with His Love and His Truth.
