"EVOLUTION UNMASKED"

The intention of these series is to show how great God is! Science and the Bible are not at odds as many think. The founders of modern science realised that they were only thinking God's thoughts after Him. We need to be amazed at how many actual scientific facts there are in the Bible.

With regard to Evolution we need to be challenged afresh. If you hold to this theory then you have to hold to the view that there was death and disease before the creation of man. But God in Genesis 1 looked at all that He had made and said that it was good. How could death and disease be good? And if death and disease weren't caused by mankind's sin then there's little need of a Saviour. Genesis 1 and 2 are foundational to an understanding of the Gospel. Please come to this series with an open mind.

For the second two weeks of this series Reverend Kelso spoke on the theory of evolution, its incompatibility with scripture, and its inability to stand up to genuine scrutiny.

Despite its being taught in schools as fact, the theory of evolution is still only a theory and has little or no supporting evidence. Scientists are continually finding previously unknown fossil evidence that simply does not fit the theory, which then has to be revised (see our "wider news" page for a recent example of this).

The sermons provide very useful facts to present when in conversation with those who feel God has been taken out of the equation since the theory of evolution gained such wide acceptance.

NOTES TO ACOMPANY THE TALK "EVOLUTION UNMASKED", PART 2

Genesis explains the origins of sin, the curse, death, marriage, the family, races etc. Jesus affirmed the creation of Adam and Eve as a real historical event. (Mark 10:6-9).

Genesis is fundamental to the Gospel. Romans 6:23 says that death is the penalty for sin. God created a perfect world. (Genesis 1: 31). No violence pain, death or disease. This sinless world was marred by Adam and Eve's rebellion and their sin brought death and suffering into the world. There was no decay before their sin.

Creation in Six Days

How is the Hebrew word for "day," "Yom" used? A number and the phrase "evening and morning" are used for each of the six days of creation. (Genesis 1: 5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31)

Outside Genesis 1 "Yom" is used with a number four hundred and ten times and each time it means an ordinary day of twenty-four hours.

Outside Genesis 1 "Yom" is used with the word "evening" or "morning" twenty-three times, denoting an ordinary day.

In Genesis 1: 5 "Yom" occurs with the word "night." Outside of Genesis 1 "night" is used with "Yom" fifty-three times and each time it means an ordinary day.

Why should Genesis 1 be an exception? "There is no professor of Hebrew or Old Testament who does not believe that the writers of Genesis 1-11 intended to convey to their readers the idea that:

Creation took place in a series of six days of twenty-four hours each.

Noah's ark and the Flood

Noah's Ark was built to float not sail.

• The length to width ratio of 6:1 is the best ratio for stability in stormy weather.
• The ark was large enough to hold all the required animals, people and food.
• The continents were not separated until 100-300 years after the flood. (Genesis 10:25) The people and animals had time to migrate.
• The top 3000 feet of Mount Everest is made up of sedimentary rock packed with seashells and ocean dwelling animals. Petrified clams in the closed position testify to their rapid burial whilst still alive.
• Many animals have become extinct since the flood because of the harsher post flood environment. This includes dinosaurs.
• People choose not to believe in the flood because it speaks of God's judgment on sin. (2 Peter 3:3-7)

One Common Ancestor

Modern science now agrees with the Bible that all of mankind is descended from one ancestor.

How can the young earth theory explain that we can see stars millions of light years away?
How would the light have reached us?
God created the sun, moon and stars as lights. (Genesis 1:14-18). These lights would be immediately visible on earth on the day God created them. In the same way Adam and Eve were created as fully-grown adults even though only a few seconds old. The same with fruit-bearing trees etc.

Irreducible Complexity

The human eye cannot be reduced to anything less than it is. It has thousands of coequal functions that make it work. So how did the eye evolve when all functions had to be present to make it work? "To suppose that the eye could have been formed by natural selection seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree." Charles Darwin

Fact! The focusing muscles in the eye move 1000,000 times each day. The retina contains 137 million light sensitive cells. WOW!

Evolution and Blood

To form a blood clot there must be twelve specific individual chemical reactions in our blood. If evolution were true and if this twelve step process didn't happen in the first generation then no creatures would have survived. They'd have all bled to death.

Male and Female

The male needs the female to reproduce and vice-versa. So which came first according to evolutionary theory? If each sex could reproduce without the other why and how would they have developed a reproductive system that requires both sexes to tango?

Evolution is intellectual suicide. (Romans 1: 21-22).

Why would any animal want to reproduce more of its kind since this would only make more mouths to feed and decrease the chances of survival?

The Missing Link

Charles Darwin acknowledged that his theory of evolution was wrong if no transitional life forms could be found. None have been found! "The evolutionists seen to know everything about the missing link except the fact that it is missing." G.K. Chesterton.

Fossil Evidence

"The story of the fossils agrees with the account of Genesis. In the oldest rocks we did not find a series of fossils covering the gradual changes from the most primitive creatures to developed forms but rather, in the oldest rocks, developed species suddenly appeared. Between every species there was a complete absence of intermediate fossils." D.B. Gower, Biochemist.

Evolution is a pagan religion masquerading as science, which gives mankind the ability to dispose with God and accountability to Him.
